Admissions

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in The American School of Tripoli. AST provides an American education for children in grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 (ages 3 to 18), and is located in the Tripoli suburb of Seraj.

Our mission states that the school will offer the best possible US educational program, based on achievement standards similar to those of high achieving schools in the United States. AST will also provide students with the knowledge of and an appreciation for different world cultures, including those of our host country.

Delivering an American curriculum based on challenging academic standards developed by Project AERO (American Education Reaches Out), our teachers are qualified educators who are familiar with the best practices of American education and who are experienced teaching American and international students overseas. Teachers focus on the individual student by differentiating instruction. Specialist classes are offered in Physical Education, Music, Computer/Technology, Library Skills, Art, Arabic Language and Libyan Culture, and Spanish in Grades 7 - 12.

The AST facilities include a tennis court, volleyball and basketball courts, as well as grass playing areas for children. The library contains over 5,500 titles of English-language books, and the computer labs have internet access for student and faculty research and distance learning for students in high school, when necessary.

Pre-school applicants must be three years old by October 1st and out of diapers. To be eligible for Kindergarten, children must be five years old by October 1st.
Students in grades 1 and 2 need to have some understanding of spoken English in order to be admitted. Students must demonstrate an English language proficiency in grades 3 - 12 that would allow them to be successful.
