MISSION STATEMENT & BELIEFS
The American School of Tripoli pursues academic excellence for students in the international community through an American-based education that nurtures responsible, respectful, and globally conscious lifelong learners.
We believe that:
- Children develop at individual rates and we cannot expect them all to master the same material at the same rate.
- Each child is unique and has a distinct learning style of his or her own that must be honored if genuine learning is to take place.
- Genuine learning consists of more than mere command of a body of facts; it consists of deep understanding of the significance of these facts and an ability to apply what one knows in a variety of situations.
- Understanding consists of the ability to construct personal meaning from what one is studying and students are encouraged to ask questions and challenge ideas.
- Students must be taught to take responsibility for their own learning.
